Terminologies

Chips: Chips is the virtual currency (dummy) that will be used in all games, be it free or cash based games. They have no monetary value associated with them and can only be used during the game in order to play

Kitty or Boot: ‘Kitty’ or ‘Boot’ is the number or quantity of virtual chips that you need to deposit with the dealer to gain a seat at any playing table to play Rummy Patti. It is like an entry fee for each game that is deducted automatically from chips balance of each gamer before the start of each game. It varies between different tables, games and tourneys based on the stakes of the table/game.

Chaal and Chaal 2X: : When a Gamer decides to continue playing in the game (with or without exchanging cards), they can do so by playing Chaal or Chaal 2X. When the Gamer plays Chaal, the Chaal amount (chips) is deducted automatically from the chips balance of the gamer.

In case the Gamer wants to increase the stake further, they can do so by playing Chaal 2X. In this case, the Chaal amount (2X chips) is deducted automatically from the chips balance of the gamer

  • A gamer can play Chaal only during his/her turn of play

  • The Chaal amount (chips) will be the higher amount of the following two options (1) The Kitty value of the table or (2) The Chaal amount (chips) played by the immediately previous gamer.

  • The Chaal 2X amount (chips) will be the higher amount of the following two options (1) Twice the Kitty value of the table or (2) Twice the Chaal amount (chips) played by the immediately previous Gamer

  • The Chaal value cannot be decreased at any point of time. It can only be retained or doubled for Chaal 2X.

Maximum Chaal Value: Each table or game will have a pre-defined maximum chaal limit, beyond which the Chaal value cannot be increased by the Gamers. It is pre-defined based on the kitty value of the table. Once the maximum Chaal value is reached, the Gamer can continue to play Chaal until the end of the game, but cannot play Chaal 2X anymore.

Pot: ‘Pot’ is the virtual depository/locker of each game table into which each Gamers deposit their chips during the game, including the kitty and the chaal. The winner of the game takes all the chips deposited in the pot during that game. Each pot has a maximum pot value defined

Maximum Pot Value: The maximum pot value is pre-defined based on the kitty value of that table/game. Once the maximum pot value is reached, the game ends and all the Gamer cards are displayed to determine the winner

Pack:At any time during their turn of play in the game, the Gamers will have the option to exit that game by choosing to ‘Pack’. Once gamer chooses to pack, he/she cannot participate in that particular game any further. The gamer does not need to deposit chaal chips when they decide to pack. However, they will lose all the chips deposited already into the pot for that game (both kitty and Chaal).

Sideshow and Show:The game rule allows two gamers sitting adjacent to each other to show their cards among themselves to check who has a higher card. This is done using the ‘Sideshow’ option during their turn of play. The ‘Sideshow’ request is governed by the following rules.

  • A gamer (Gamer A) can request ‘Sideshow’ only to the gamer (Gamer B) whose turn of play was just before Gamer A’s turn of play (seated before him/her at the table).

  • Gamer B will have the option to accept or reject the sideshow request. If accepted, Gamer A and Gamer B get to see each other’s cards, before the turn of play moves on to the next gamer (Gamer B)

  • If Gamer B rejects the sideshow request, then the cards are not shown to each other and the turn of play moves on to the next gamer (Gamer B).

  • Both the gamers can continue to play even after sideshow request in Rummy Patti.

  • On playing Sideshow, the ongoing Chaal amount is automatically deducted from the gamer’s chips balance (Gamer A).

If there are only 2 gamers playing on the table, then Sideshow option is not available. Instead, any of the remaining 2 gamers can request a ‘Show’ to the other gamer.

  • In this case, the other gamer does not have an option to accept or reject the request and the cards are opened automatically. The Gamer with the higher Hand wins the game

  • On playing Show, the ongoing Chaal amount is automatically deducted from the gamer’s chips balance (Gamer A).

Rummy Patti (Free Game): Game Play Explained

Playing Cards: 1 pack of 52 cards (excluding joker)

Minimum number of Gamers required (per table): 2

Maximum number of Gamers allowed (per table): 6

Game Mode: Free Game

Game Variation: Rummy 3 Patti

Currency: Virtual Chips (dummy)

Game Play:
  • Let’s assume 6 players are seated on the gaming table. The game starts with Gamer 1 and is played in a clockwise manner starting from Gamer 1 on to Gamer 6.

  • At the start of the game, kitty value of that table (let’s assume 10 chips) is automatically collected from each gamer. The table pot now has 60 chips, 10 from each gamer.

  • 3 cards are distributed to each gamer starting from Gamer 1 to Gamer 6 face down. The cards distribution is done using random number generation methodology

  • Apart from this, two cards are placed at the center of the table, one card placed Face-Up and the other card placed Face-Down

    1. These 2 cards are part of the game play and the gamers will have the opportunity to exchange the cards in their hands with one of these cards during their turn of play
  • Upon distribution of cards, each gamer will be able to see their respective cards and can assess the strength of Hand as per the pre-defined Hierarchy of Hands of Rummy Pat

  • Gamer 1 gets chance to make the first play in the first game

    1. In the next game, Gamer 2 will get the opportunity to make first play, then Gamer 3 in the third game and so on.
Game Play Options
  • Gamer 1 will have the following options during his/her turn of play

    1. Option 1: Play Chaal with the three cards in his/her hand
    2. Option 2: Exchange one of his/her cards for the Closed card at the center of the table
    3. Option 3: Exchange one of his/her cards for the open card (face-up) at the center of the table.
    4. Option 4: Request the previous gamer for ‘Sideshow’. If Sideshow is chosen, then the gamer cannot exchange his/her cards during that particular turn of play.
    5. Option 5: ‘Pack’ and exit the game
  • In order to exchange cards (options 2 and 3), the Gamer must first release one of his/her cards before picking the card (open or closed) from the center of the table.

    1. To exchange the card, the gamer can tap on one of the cards that he/she wants to release and then tap on the closed or open card at the center of the table.
    2. Alternately, they can drag the selected card in their hand to the closed or open card at the center of the table
  • The card thus released by Gamer becomes the closed or open card for the subsequent gamer

  • When the Gamer decides and makes the move from the above options, the chaal amount is automatically deducted from the gamer’s chips balance and deposited in to the pot.

    1. In the case of Option 1, the Gamer can choose to play Chaal or Chaal 2X and an appropriate amount of chips will be deducted
    2. In case of Options 2 and 3, the Gamer can increase the Chaal amount by using the “+” button available in the User game play options before exchanging their card for the open or closed card
    3. In the case of Option 5, the Gamer does not have to deposit any Chaal amount.
  • The Chaal amount thus collected gets added to the pot and the turn of play moves to the next Gamer

  • Gamer 2 will similarly have to make a play from among the 5 options explained above and then the turn of play moves on to Gamer 3 and so on.

  • Each Gamer will have between 10 to 15 seconds (varies based on the game or tourney) to make their move which will be indicated by a clock timer on their profile picture.

    1. In case they fail to make the move within the allocated time, the system will autoplay Chaal for them on the first occasion (Option 1) and collect the Chaal amount
    2. If the Gamer fails to make a move in the subsequent round as well, then the Gamer is automatically exited from the game and they lose whatever chips they had deposited until then in the game.
  • The game thus progresses in to multiple rounds until one of the following takes place:

    1. Either all gamers except one pack and exit the game. In which case, the last standing Gamer wins the game and the chips in the pot.
    2. Or  the pot limit (maximum pot limit) for that game and table is reached. In which case, the cards of all the existing Gamers are opened up and the Gamer with the best hand wins the game and the chips in the pot
  • In case where a Gamer runs out of chips in the middle of the game, then he/she will not be able to continue in the game. He/she will forfeit the chips deposited thus far in the game.

  • Once the winner is decided and announced, the next game beings with the collection of the kitty amount from all the gamers on the table

Some game modes like real money game and tournaments may have additional rules that apply along with the hierarchy of hands to determine the overall winner. You can read the section on Rummy Patti Gaming Modes on our platform to know more details.

Hierarchy of Hands - To Determine Winner

Across all game variations and game modes, the following hierarchy of hands will be used to determine the winner

  • Top Hand - Triplet: Three cards of the same rank or value

    1. Starting from A-A-A, K-K-K, Q-Q-Q,….3-3-3, 2-2-2
  • Next Hand - Pure Sequence: Three consecutive cards of the same suit

    1. Starting from A-K-Q, A-2-3, K-Q-J, Q-J-10, ….5-4-3, 4-3-2 (of same suit)
  • Next Hand – Sequence: Three consecutive cards of different suits

    1. Starting from A-K-Q, A-2-3, K-Q-J, Q-J-10, ….5-4-3, 4-3-2 (of different suits)
  • Next Hand - Color: Three non-consecutive cards of the same suit

    1. Starting from A-K-J, A-K-10, A-K-9, …., 5-4-2, 5-3-2 (of same suit)
  • Next Hand - Doubles: Pair of cards of same rank or value, but different suits

    1. Starting from A-A-K, A-A-Q, A-A-J, …., 4-2-2, 3-2-2 (of different suits)
  • Last Hand – High Card: Three non-consecutive cards of different suits

    1. Starting from A-K-J, A-K-10, A-K-9, …., 5-4-2, 5-3-2 (of different suits)

In case two or more Gamers have the similar set of cards, but of different suits (like K, Q and J of different suits), then those Gamers are declared joint winners and they share the pot accordingly.

Some game modes like real money single table games or tournaments may have different or additional rules like points system that will be used along with the hierarchy of hands to determine the overall winner. The details will be mentioned in the Rummy Patti gaming Modes section as and when they are launched.
